Procedure

A solution of methyl 3-{3-[(3-carbamoylphenyl)carbonyl]-1-(2,2-dimethylpropanoyl)-7-(propan-2-yl)indolizin-2-yl}-2,2-dimethylpropanoate (111 mg, 0.220 mmol) in MeOH (2 mL) and 6M aqueous NaOH (2 mL) is heated at 70° C. for 1 h then cooled to 23° C., acidified to pH=1 with concentrated aqueous HCl, then partitioned between CH2Cl2 and brine. The organics are dried with MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. Purification of the crude by reverse phase HPLC (35% CH3CN to 95% CH3CN in 0.1% TFA in water) gives the title compound (20 mg, 19%).
