Procedure
Into a solution of 5-bromo-2-nitropyridine (30 g, 148 mmol) in DMSO (1 L) were added K2CO3 (40 g, 296 mmol) and tert-butyl piperazine-1-carboxylate (28 g, 148 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 65 degree for overnight. After cooling down, it was poured into water (2 L). The solid precipitated was collected and dried under vacuum. It was then further purified by flash column eluting with 20:1 petroleum ether/ethyl acetate and then with methylene chloride to give 188a as a yellow solid (17 g, 37%). MS: [M+H]+ 309.
