Procedure
To a solution of crude (133) (6.0 g) and benzyl alcohol (4.1 mL, 39.2 mmol) in dichloromethane at 0° C. was added dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (6.07 g, 29.4 mmol) and DMAP (120 mg, 0.98 mmol), and the resulting reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h, then filtered through a pad of Celite. The filtrate was washed with brine and dried over Na2SO4. After filtration and evaporation, the crude product was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel, eluting with 10% ethyl acetate in hexane, to afford 5.8 g of the desired ester (134). (CDCl3, 400 MHz): δ 0.95 (t, J=7.4 Hz, 3H), 1.72-1.20 (m, 14H), 2.34 (s, 2H), 3.19 (m, 2H), 5.10 (s, 2H), 5.47 (t, J=6.2 Hz, 1H), 6.42 (t, J=5.8 Hz, 1H), 7.33 (m, 5H).
