A mixture of alcohol 4 (3.591 g, 4.9 mmol), 4 A molecular sieves (2.5 g), and NMO (867 mg, 7.4 mmol) in dichloromethane (10 mL) was treated with TPAP (117 mg, 0.33 mmol). After 1 h, the mixture was filtered through celite and the filtrate evaporated in vacuo. Purification by flash chromatography (5% ethyl acetate/hexanes→7.5%) gave 5 (2.984 g, 4.1 mmol, 84%).
