Procedure

Cesium carbonate (610 mg, 1.87 mmol) was added to a solution of 5-bromo-2′,3′,5′,6′-tetrahydrospiro[indole-3,4′-thiopyran]-2(1H)-one from Step C (372 mg, 1.25 mmol) and ethyl bromoacetate (0.166 mL, 1.50 mmol) in DMF (2 mL). After 16 h, H2O (5 mL) was added to the reaction and the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration to give the title compound. MS: m/z=386 (M+1).
