A solution of [3-(4-acetylbenzyl)-4-difluoromethoxy-2-ethyl-8-fluoroquinolin-5-yloxy]acetic acid methyl ester (0.13 g) in methanol (5.0 mL) was treated with 1.0 M aqueous lithium hydroxide solution (0.54 mL), and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, diluted with water and acidified by the addition of 0.1 M aqueous hydrochloric acid. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the combined extracts were washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue purified by column chromatography on C-18 column to afford title compound (0.20 g).
