To a stirring solution of 4-pentylbenzohydrazide (1-C) (206 mg, 1.0 mmol) and triethylamine (153 μL, 1.1 mmol) in methylene chloride (5 mL) was added a solution of 2-(ethylthio)benzoyl chloride (1-B) (210 mg, 1.0 mmol) in methylene chloride (2.0 mL). After stirring at room temperature for 18 h, the mixture was diluted with methylene chloride and washed with water, 10% NaHCO3, brine, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated in vacuo to give 2-(ethylthio)-N′-(4-pentylbenzoyl)benzohydrazide (1-D). MS m/z 371 (M+1).
