Procedure

To a solution of compound 10E (1.40 g, 4.08 mmol) in HOAc/HCl (50/5 mL) was added iron power (2.2 g, 40 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 30 minutes, then cooled to room temperature and filtered. A solution of NaNO2 (0.35 g, 5 mmol) in water (2 mL) was then added drop wise into above acid solution at 0° C. The reaction solution was stirred for one hour and concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was sonicated in ethyl acetate/NaHCO3 solution and the precipitate was filtered off and rinsed thoroughly with ethyl acetate. The organic solution was separated and dried with MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to give 1.2 g of desired product (10F). ESI-MS:m/z 323.9 (M+H)+.
