By following the procedure for the preparation of 5-chloro-8-fluoroisoquinolin-3-ol, the title compound was prepared from 2,2-dimethoxy-N-(3-trifluoromethoxybenzyl)-acetamide (5.0 g, 17 mmol), conc. H2SO4 (9.0 mL) and oleum (30%; 10.8 mL). 1H NMR (CDCl3, 300 MHz): δ=6.80 (s, 1H), 7.22 (d, J=6.8 Hz, 1H), 7.42 (s, 1H), 7.43 (d, J=7.2 Hz, 1H), 8.44 (s, 1H).
