Procedure
A mixture of 2-(4-{2-[4-(2,2-dimethylbutyl)-1H-imidazol-2-yl]ethyl}-2-cyanophenyl)pyridine (30 mg, 0.08 mmol) and 6N HCl (10 mL) was heated at reflux for 3 h. Upon cooling, the volatiles were removed, and the resulting residue was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel eluting with 0-10% methanol/ammonium hydroxide mixture in methylene chloride the title compound, which was converted to the potassium salt with KOH (1 eq) in methanol. NMR (500 MHz, CD3OD) δ 8.53-8.51 (d, J=4.5 Hz, 1H), 7.81-7.77 (m, 1H), 7.63-7.61 (d, J=7.9 Hz, 1H), 7.49 (s, 1H), 7.43-7.42 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 1H), 7.33-7.30 (m, 1H), 7.13-7.11 (m, 1H), 6.96 (s, 1H), 3.22-3.19 (t, J=7.5 Hz, 2H), 3.10-3.07 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 2.44 (s, 2H), 1.23-1.16 (m, 2H), 0.85-0.82 (t, J=7.4 Hz, 3H), 0.79 (s, 6H); LC-MS: m/e 378 (M+H).
