Procedure

To a mixture of 2-tert-butyl-4H-pyrido[2,3-d][1,3]oxazin-4-one (10.2 g, 50 mmol) and tetrahydrofuran (50 mL) was added methyl magnesium bromide (0.97M tetrahydrofuran solution, 100 mL, 97 mmol) dropwise at −78° C., after the dropwise addition was finished, which was stirred at −78° C. for 30 minutes. To the reaction mixture were added a saturated aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and water, which was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the organic layer was washed with an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride. The solvent was evaporated under a reduced pressure and the precipitated solid was filtered to obtain the title compound (9.1 g).
