500 mg (1.9 mmol) of 3-[5-(2-fluoro-phenyl)-thiophen-2-yl]-propionic acid methyl ester was dissolved in 5 ml of dioxane and 5 ml of a 2 N sodium hydroxide solution. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 h, diluted with water and acidified to pH=2 by the addition of concentrated hydrochloric acid. The precipitated product was isolated by filtration. Yield: 398 mg.
