Procedure
To 50 ml of a dichloromethane solution of 2.984 g (9.90 mmol) of 1-benzyl-3-[(1R,2S )-2-t-butoxycarbonylcyclopropyl]pyrrolidine (isomer B1) was added 2.83 ml (19.82 mmol) of benzyl chloroformate at room temperature, and the mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 14 hours. To the reaction mixture was further added 1.98 ml (13.86 mmol) of benzyl chloroformate, followed by refluxing for 2 hours. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate=7:3) to give 2.188 g (64.0%) of the title compound as a colorless oily substance.
