In the same apparatus and procedure as Example 1 above, 0.26 g (0.79 mmol) of benzyltributylphosphonium chloride, 1.00 g (7.90 mmol) of benzyl chloride, and 3.21 g (23.7 mmol) of trichlorosilane were reacted at 150° C. for 2 hrs. The resulting mixture was distilled to give 1.43 g of benzyltrichlorosilane (yield; 80%).
