In the same manner as that described in Example 7(vi) above, 5.0 g of crude (2R,3R)-2-(2,5-difluorophenyl)-3-[(trans-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxan-5-yl)thio]-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-2-butanol [prepared as described in Step 8(v) above] were treated with hydrochloric acid and the product obtained was purified by chromatography on a silica gel (50 g) column using a 3:100 mixture of methanol and ethyl acetate as the eluant to afford 3.17 g [overall yield from Step 8(v) 83%] of the of the title compound as an oil.
