Procedure
Tetra-n-butylammonium fluoride (8.0 moles, 8 ml of 1.0M solution in THF) was added to 5-(2-Cyanophenyl)-1-triisopropylsilylindole (4 mmole, 1.5 g) in 5 ml THF and stirred at room temperature for 5 minutes. The reaction was added to brine and extracted with ether. The ether solution was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated. The residue was chromatographed over silica gel eluted with chloroform to yield 0.69 g of 5- (2-cyanophenyl) indole. (MS)
