2-Bromo-3-propargyloxypyridine (9.4 g) was heated under reflux under nitrogen in dichloromethane (100 ml) for 64 hours, then the solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue purified by column chromatography on silica using dichloromethane as eluant to give 7-bromo-2-methylfurano[2,3-c]pyridine as a tan solid (4.3 g, 46%).
