A mixture of 1.00 g of ethyl 1-[-(1R,2S)-2-fluorocyclopropyl]-6,7,8-trifluoro-5-methyl-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylate, 10 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid, and 20 ml of acetic acid was heated under reflux for 1 hour and, after allowing to cool, water was added thereto. The precipitated crystals were collected by filtration, washed with water and ethanol, and dried to yield 960 mg of the titled compound as a pale yellow powderous crystal, which was then recrystallized from a mixed solvent of ethanol and chloroform.
