A solution of 375 mg (0.95 mmol) of oxazolidinone 9 and 144 mg (0.20 mL, 1.42 mmol) triethylamine in 3.8 mL dichloromethane at 0° C. was treated dropwise with 130 mg (0.09 mL, 1.14 mmol) of methanesulfonyl chloride followed by stirring at 0° C. for 1 hour. The solution was diluted with 30 mL dichloromethane and was extracted with water (2×25 mL) and with saturated NaHCO3 (25 mL). Drying (Na2 SO4) and concentration in vacuo afforded 440 mg (98%) of mesylate 10 as a white solid, sufficiently pure for use in the next step.
