Reaction Steps
2-Benzoyl-4,5-dichlorobenzoic acid, in place of 2-benzoyl-4,5-dimethyl-benzoic acid, was reacted and treated in the same manner as in Process 1 of Reference Example 29 to yield 6,7-dichloro-4-phenylisocoumarin-3-carboxylic acid [melting point 243°-244° C. (recrystallized from ethyl acetate-isopropyl ether)]. This compound was reacted and treated in the same manner as in Process 2 of Reference Example 29 to yield the title compound as colorless crystals.
