Reaction Steps

1-Azidocyclopentan-1-carbonylchloride (16.8 g) was added to a mixture of 2-benzyloxyethylamine (14.7 g), K2CO3 (16.6 g) and acetone at 0° C. After stirring at room temperature for 2 h the mixture was filtered, concentrated in vacuo and after addition water (100 ml) extracted with diethyl ether (2×100 ml).The combined organic phases were washed with brine and dried (Na2SO4). Evaporation of the solvents gave the crude 12a as an oil: 22.3 g.
