Procedure
0.267 g (0.82 mmole) of the thiazol-4-ylmethyl 2-acetoxy-7-aza-spiro[3.5]nonane-7-carboxylate obtained in stage 1.2 is dissolved in 2 ml of methanol then 0.5 ml of water and 0.114 g (0.82 mmole) of potassium carbonate are added. After stirring for 1 hr at ambient temperature, the medium is concentrated under vacuum then taken up in water. The aqueous solution is extracted twice with dichloromethane then the organic phases are combined, dried over sodium sulphate, filtered and concentrated to dryness. 0.222 g of the expected product are obtained in the form of a colour-less oil.
