Procedure
A suspension of 3-chloroperoxybenzoic acid (77%, 3.11 g) in CHCl3 (40 mL) was slowly added at 0° C. under N2 to a mixture of 1-(2-methylsulfanylpyrimidin-4-yl)-4-nitro-1H-indole (3.93 g, 14.0 mmol) in CHCl3 (50 mL). The resulting mixture was allowed to warm up to RT, and stirred overnight. The reaction mixture was then diluted with DCM (200 mL) and washed with aqueous NaHCO3 (saturated). The resulting yellow precipitate was collected by filtration and dried under reduced pressure to give 1-(2-methanesulfinyl-pyrimidin-4-yl)-4-nitro-1H-indole (2.36 g). The mother liquors were dried over Na2SO4, filtered and evaporated under reduced pressure to give a second aliquot (690 mg).
