[8-(3-fluorophenyl)-1,4-dioxa-spiro[4.5]dec-8-yl]-dimethylamine hydrochloride (2.80 g, 8.86 mmole) was dissolved in water (3.7 ml), conc. hydrochloric acid (5.5 ml) was added and the mixture was stirred for 4 days at RT. After completion of the hydrolysis the reaction mixture was extracted with ether (2×10 ml), the aqueous solution was made alkaline with 5N sodium hydroxide solution while cooling with ice, the reaction mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (3×50 ml), and the organic phase was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated by evaporation in vacuo. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography with CHCl3/MeOH (20:1).
