A solution of 5-[(1H-indol-4-ylmethyl)-carbamoyl]-3-methyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (115 mg, 0.35 mmol) in THF/water (6 ml/3 ml) was treated with LiOH.H2O (157 mg, 3.5 mmol) at rt for 24 h. The reaction mixture was quenched with 1N HCl and extracted with EtOAc. The layers were separated. The organic layer was successively washed with water and brine, then dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the desired product (126 mg, 100% yield).
