cis-1-(4-Isopropyl-cyclohexyl)-piperidine-4-on (5.0 g, 23.4 mmol), pyridine (3.3 g, 35.3 mmol) and molecular sieves (20 g, 4 Å) were stirred in 100 ml pentane at room temperature for 6 days. The molecular sieves were filtered off and the solvent was evaporated. The crude product was used without any further purification for the following steps.
