Procedure
313.6 grams (1.300 mol) of di(2-ethylhexyl)amine, 106.1 grams of a 50 wt % NaOH solution (1.326 mol NaOH), and 230 mL reagent 2-propanol were combined in a 2 liter bottom-out resin kettle reaction flask equipped with an overhead stirrer, a thermocouple probe, a reflux condenser, a Clasien adapter and a 125 mL addition funnel. 79.8 mL (1.326 mol) carbon disulfide were charged dropwise to the addition funnel over a 30 minute period. The reaction temperature was maintained at 20-25° C. over the course of the CS2 addition. The resultant reaction product was post-reacted at 25° C. for 2 hours.
