A mixture of 4-3 (3.0 g, 8.1 mmol), Cs2CO3 (2.6 g, 8.1 mmol), methyl 3-hydroxy-5-isoxazolecarboxylate (Aldrich) (1.2 g, 8.1 mmol), and DMF (20 mL) was stirred at ambient temperature for 20 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with ether and then washed with H2O and brine, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. Flash chromatography (silica, 3% acetone/CH2Cl2) gave 4-4 (2.7 g) as a colorless solid. Rf 0.17 (silica, 3% acetone/CH2Cl2).
