A mixture of 8-acetoxymethyl-4-[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzyl]-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-5-oxo-6-phenylpyrido[3,2-f][1,4]oxazepine (Example 37) (4,51 g), ethanol (50 ml), and 4N-NaOH (50 ml) was stirred for 1.5 hours at room temperature. After evaporation of the solvent, water was added to the residue. The pH of the mixture was adjusted to ca.8 using dilute hydrochloric acid, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water, dried and evaporated to give the entitled compound as colorless crystals (4.10 g).
