To a solution of methyl 2-(2-fluorobenzyl)piperidine-4-carboxylate (4.49 g, 17.85 mmol) and DIPEA (9.35 mL, 53.55 mmol) in DCM (100 mL) was added methyl chloroformate (1.798 mL, 23.21 mmol) in DCM (50 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred for 1.5 h. The organic phase was washed with satd NaHCO3. The phases were separated and the organic phase dried using a phase separator to yield crude dimethyl 2-(2-fluorobenzyl)piperidine-1,4-dicarboxylate (6.16 g, 112%). MS m/z 310 (M+H)+
