To a solution of 640 mg 4-((S)-2-Benzyloxycarbonylamino-pent-4-enoyl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester in 10 ml acetone/water (4/1) were added 2.1 ml OsO4 (2.5 w/w in t-BuOH) and 567 mg 4-Methylmorpholine-N-oxide monohydrate at 0° C. After 1 h solid NaHSO3 was added, the suspension stirred for 5 minutes, filtered and the filtrate concentrated. The residue was redissolved in dichloromethane and washed with aqueous NaHSO3 (5%) and brine. The crude product obtained after evaporation of the solvent was directly used in the next reaction step. Yield: 755 mg.
