To a solution of 1.50 g (S)-4-N-Boc-2-methyl-piperazine in 10 ml dichloromethane were added at 0° C. 2.29 ml triethylamine and 0.72 ml ethyl chloroformate. After 12 h the reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane and extracted with 0.1 M HCl and saturated aqueous NaHCO3. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and the crude product obtained after evaporation of the solvent was used in the subsequent reaction.
