To a solution of 750 mg of 7e and 1 ml of triethyl amine in 10 ml of diethyl ether was added, at 0° C., a solution of 0.55 ml of ethyloxalyl chloride in 3 ml of diethyl ether. The mixture was stirred for 15 min and then quenched with 30 ml of water and was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed once with 1M aq. K2CO3 and once with water, dried, concentrated and chromatographed, to provide 1.0 g of 7f as an oil. Rf (heptane/ethyl acetate 1/1) 0.6.
