Proceeding in a manner similar to that described above in Example 3, N,N-dimethyl-N-(3-amino-4-methoxybenzyl)-N-3-formamidopropylammonium chloride was hydrolyzed and the resulting N,N-dimethyl-N-(3-amino-4-methoxybenzyl)-N-3-aminopropylammonium chloride was diazotized and coupled with 2-amino-4-methylanisole to obtain N,N-dimethyl-N-[3-(4-amino-5-methoxy-2-methylphenyl)azo-4-methoxybenzyl]-N-3-aminopropylammonium chloride in aqueous solution. This product was diazotized in situ and coupled with acetoacetanilide to obtain the brown, water-soluble dyestuff having the formula ##STR144##
