Using chloromethyl 2,3-dichloro-α,α-dimethylbenzyl sulfide (prepared from 2,3-dichloro-α,α-dimethyl-α-toluenethiol obtained as in Example 1 from 2,3-dichloro-α,α-dimethylbenzyl alcohol) and stirring vigorously for 2 hours at 50° C. with a 10% excess of 50% aqueous sodium O,O-dimethyl phosphorodithioate solution gives a crude product which is purified as in Example 6 to give the pure, desired product as a colorless oil.
