Reaction Steps

Treatment of N-(2-cyanomethylsulfonyl-5-fluoro-phenyl)acetamide with aqueous sodium hydroxide by a procedure similar to the procedure described in EXAMPLE 1 c) gave the title compound; mp 261-263° C. (sinters at 240-251° C.), 1H-NMR (DMSO-d6), δ (ppm): 12.03 (br s, 1H, NH), 8.06 (dd, 9.0 Hz/5.5 Hz, 1H, H8), 7.35 (m, 1H, H7), 7.20 (dd, 10.0/2.5 Hz, 1H, H5), 2.46 (s, 3H, CH3).
