Procedure
A mixture of the above ester (0.105 g, 0.27 mmol), ethanol (15 ml) and 1 N sodium hydroxide (10 ml) was heated at reflux temperature for 3 h and then cooled to room temperature. Water (75 ml) was added, and the mixture was acidified with 5 N hydrochloric acid and extracted with dichloromethane (3×75 ml), dried (MgSO4) and evaporated in vacuo. The resulting foam was crystallised from acetone affording 0.080 g of the title compound as crystals.
