In a manner similar to Example 4, Step (c), 4-oxo-4-(4′-trifluoromethyl-biphenyl-4-yl)-butyric acid (1.20 g, 0.00372 mol) was allowed to react with hydroxylamine hydrochloride (0.3115 g, 0.00448 mol) in the presence of sodium carbonate (0.4768 g, 0.00450 mol) in absolute ethanol (20 mL) to give 0.764 g of 4-hydroxyimino-4-(4′-trifluoromethyl-biphenyl-4-yl)-butyric acid as a white solid; mp 134-136° C.
