A solution of 1.0 g of methyl 3-[[(4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]aminosulfonyl]-2-thiophenecarboxylate in 10 ml of ethanol and 1 ml of 50% sodium hydroxide in water was stirred overnight at room temperature. To this was added icewater and aqueous hydrochloric acid until acidic, and the precipitate was filtered and washed first with acetone and then with methylene chloride. The product, 0.8 g, melted at 127°.
