Reaction Steps
The pyrrole, 0.8 mole in 1.2 1 of ethanol, was hydrogenated at 1100 psi H2 for three hours at 100° C. using 5 g of 10% Pd/C. The cooled reaction mixture was filtered and distilled to yield N-(hydroxyethoxyethyl)-2,5-dimethylpyrrolidine (b.p.=80° C. at 0.4 mm).
