A solution of 3-(1-imidazolyl)-2,3-dihydro-6-chloro-4H-1-benzopyran-4-ol (5.4 g), acetic acid (81 ml) and sulphuric acid (27 ml) was heated at 80° C. for 8 hours. The solution, poured into ice water (200 ml), neutralized with NH4OH, extracted with CH2Cl2, dried and evaporated to dryness gave 3.9 g of 3-(1-imidazolyl)-6-chloro-2H-1-benzopyran
