Reaction Steps
The reactions of Equation 36 above can be run according to similar procedures described in E. Hogarth, J. Chem. Soc., 4811 (1952). Thus, in reaction 36a, 2-nitrobenzhydrazide XLVIII is reacted with carbon disulfide in pyridine solvent at 25° to 80° C. for about 4 to 16 hours, followed by addition of water and acidification with hydrochloric acid to form a 2-mercapto-5-(2-nitrophenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole of Formula (L). In reaction 36b, L is reacted with sodium hydroxide and methyl iodide in water at 0° to 30° C. for 0.2 to 1 hour to form Xk".
