51.0 g of 1C was dissolved in 600 ml of THF. The solution was divided in half, and each half was hydrogenated (40-50 psig hydrogen pressure) in the presence of 1 g of palladium-on-charcoal catalyst. The reaction mixtures were filtered, the filtrates were combined, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated dryness, to give 7-amino-2,3-dihydro-2,5-dimethyl-4-chlorobenzofuran (1D).
