Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Acetic Acid | HCID 176 | — |
| Reactant | Methacrylic Acid | HCID 4093 | — |
| Reactant | Potassium Nitrate | HCID 24434 | — |
| Product | Maleic Acid | HCID 444266 | — |
| Product | Citraconic acid | HCID 643798 | — |
Reaction Steps
A catalyst is prepared as described in Example 1 except that the addition of potassium nitrate is omitted. Under the test conditions of Example 1 and at a bath temperature of 310° C., the conversion is 69.9 mole %, and the selectivities with respect to methacrylic acid and acetic acid are 82.5 mole % and 3.7 mole % respectively. Maleic acid and citraconic acid are formed in a total amount of 1.2%.
