818 mg of Z-Sta-OMe dissolved in 40 ml of methanol are hydrogenated at room temperature and normal pressure in the presence of 190 mg of palladium-on-carbon catalyst (10% Pd) until saturation. During hydrogenation, the pH value is maintained constantly at 5 by the continuous addition of 0.5N HCl. After hydrogenation the catalyst is filtered off and the filtrate is concentrated by evaporation. H-Sta-OMe×HCl is obtained in the form of a colourless foam; Rf (G)=0.21. This crude product is used directly in stage 13.5.
