Reaction Steps

5 g of the crude product from Example 8 is dissolved in 10 ml of methanol and added to a solution of 14 g of potassium hydroxide in 15 ml of methanol and 10 ml water. Heat to reflux for 2 hr. Cool to room temperature, and pour into 300 ml of water with good mixing. The resulting precipitate is recrystallized from ether to provide the title compound.
