Procedure

To a 0° C. suspension of indole-2-carbonyl chloride (100 mg, 0.56 mmol) in CH2Cl2 was added a solution of TEA (235 μL, 1.67 mmol) and (S,S)-2,5-diaza-bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-2-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (156 mg, 0.84 mmol) in CH2Cl2. After 1.5 h at 0° C., the mixture was diluted with saturated aqueous (satd. aq.) NaHCO3 and extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×15 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with satd. aq. NaCl (20 mL), dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated to give a yellow liquid, which was purified by FCC to give a yellow solid (130 mg, 46%). 1H NMR (CDCl3): 9.37-9.17 (m, 1H), 7.70-7.64 (m, 1H), 7.47-7.41 (m, 1H), 7.35-7.28 (m, 1H), 7.19-7.10 (m, 1H), 6.86-6.78 (m, 1H), 5.13 (s, 1H), 4.77-4.50 (m, 1H), 4.02-3.80 (m, 1H), 3.80-3.39 (m, 2H), 2.08-1.88 (m, 2H), 1.54-1.35 (m, 9H).
