4,4,4-Trifluoro-2-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)-but-2-enoic acid ethyl ester (5.0 g, 20.0 mmol) in THF (20 mL) was treated with Pd/C (2.5 g, 5%), and H2 (1 atm.) at 25° C. for 17 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through a pad of the Celite® reagent, rinsed with Et2O (50 mL) and the filtrate was distilled to remove Et2O and THF to afford the product as colorless liquid (5.0 g, 99%).
