A suspension of 2-(2,5-dichloropyrimidin-4-yl)-benzo[b]thiophene-4-carboxylic acid (5.00 g, 15.4 mmol) in dichloromethane (100 mL) is treated at room temperature with cyclopropylamine (1.20 mL, 17.3 mmol) in the presence of N,N-diisopropylethylamine (3.00 mL, 17.2 mmol), 1-(3-diethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (3.34 g, 17.4 mmol), and 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (2.33 g, 17.2 mmol) for 20 hours. Water (20 mL) is then added, and after stirring for 20 minutes, the mixture is filtered, and dried. The obtained solid is suspended in dichloromethane (50 mL), stirred for 2 hours, filtered, and dried to provide the title compound (5.60 g, 99%).
