Procedure
To a solution of 4-chlorobutanoyl chloride (5.64 g, 40.0 mmol) and a N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride (3.91 g, 40.0 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (80 mL) at 0° C., was added pyridine (7.2 ml, 88.0 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (30 mL). This mixture was kept stirring at 0° C. for 1 h, then warmed to rt. The reaction mixture then diluted with Et2O (200 mL), washed with saturated 1N HCl (2×), saturated NaHCO3 solution and brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to afford the title compound as a colorless oil (6.28 g, 95%). MS (ES+) m/e 166 [M+H]+.
